PSVAR – will your coaches comply?

With 2020 just around the corner, for those running scheduled coach services, there are rules and regulations that must be complied with by the 1st January; with the final requirement of the PSV Accessibility Regulations (PSVAR) of 2000 and 2005 due to be implemented.

Who does PSVAR apply to?
All coaches with more than 22 passenger seats that are used on a scheduled services.

What needs to be done to comply with PSVAR?
Any coach used on scheduled service routes must provide wheelchair access. They must also meet the regulations stipulated by the Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee (DPTAC) which relate to step and seat dimensions, markings and handrails.

What needs to be done before 1st January 2020?
If you run a scheduled coach services and the vehicles used don’t already comply with the regulations, then upgrades will be required, either by updating coaches already in your company’s fleet to be used for these routes, or investing in new vehicles which have all the necessary measures needed already in place.
